The Rosenbaum House – Florence, AL

Paul likes the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright so while we were headed in that direction, we stopped at the only Wright designed house in this area.

Frank Lloyd Wright invented the “carport” as an alternative to the garage because he believed people should drive a fancy car and that all your
neighbors should be able to see it.  So, we thought it was appropriate to take a photo of Paul’s Porsche parked in the driveway.

The Rosenbaums owned a bunch of movie theaters and were pretty well off, well enough that they had their garden
designed by the same man who created the Japanese Gardens at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

Wright designed all the furniture as well.  His idea was when he built a house, you just brought only your clothes and kitchen items,
you didn’t need anything else. I don’t care who you are, plywood does not make for beautiful furniture. J

Ok, if everyone’s sitting around the kitchen table, what about the poor bastard on the
left side at the end.  He has to stare at a cabinet the whole time he’s eating? J

They had 4 boys grow up here, all living in this one room. I bet those kids needed some therapy later in life. J

  Mulberry Manor – Lynchburg, TN

This was a neat old home but maybe not the cleanest place I ever stayed in.  J

When I woke up in the middle of the night, I was terrified that I was going to see a ghost
in this room… it just looks like it’d be haunted, doesn’t it?

The homeowners are members of the Single Barrel club where you buy a barrel of Jack Daniel’s for about $10,000 and
get a your name on a plaque on the wall in the distillery.  Their kitchen table is made from the barrel they bought.

Jack Daniel’s Distillery Tour

Our tour guide was a weird little chick (in the white hat/coat) who reminded me of Jerry’s wife Allison… scary backwoods kind of folk. J
They take you on a bus to the top of the hill then the rest of the tour is walking, mostly outside.  As you can see, we chose a simply gorgeous day for it. J

I think this might be wood for making the barrels but I’m not sure… I had been sampling
some of Jack’s whiskey before we got there so my memory isn’t great. J

So, the weird chick says “Here’s your first souvenir. Grab some of this charcoal that we use for the distilling process.”  Well I did
and stuck it in my pocket and then had black charcoal hands the rest of the day.  Thanks a lot for the awesome free gift, Hillbilly girl. J

Jack built the distillery here because of this spring water below.

I think they “purdied up” Mr. Jack for this statue because his photos don’t look this nice.  Jack Daniel died because he forgot the combination
to the safe in his office and got mad and kicked it, which then caused his foot to develop gangrene that eventually killed him.

 Paul… probably wishing I didn’t have a camera on me. J

There are lots of wild turkey’s running around the property… we assume they are spies from the Wild Turkey distillery. J
